Have We Met?

For many people reading this blog the answer to the question above is no. So, to get better acquainted I’ve decided to share 10 fast facts about myself, Marti Parham, with you. Here they are:

  1. I work from Chicago.
  2. I love a good story no matter if it’s fact or fiction. That’s why I watch so many movies and read so many books, including young adult fiction and children’s picture books. (Yes, I said picture books. Don’t judge.)
  3. Before going the writing route I received a fashion design degree from the University of Cincinnati. One day while watching the TV show “Friends” I noticed actress Jennifer Aniston (who played Rachel) wearing a graphic T-shirt I designed for Abercrombie & Fitch. (Not sure if her popularity caused any increase in product sales for the store, but I was ecstatic!)
  4. As a journalist I have had the pleasure of interviewing several celebrities. Some of my favorite conversations have been with Will Smith, Mary J. Blige, Jill Scott, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Alicia Keys, Mo’Nique, Vanessa Williams, Common and BB King.
  5. Chicago is known for its blues, R&B and even rap, but it’s because of this city that I fell in love with house music. “Hot Music” by Soho is one of my favorite songs ever. If you don’t know it look it up on YouTube. (I dare you not to dance.)
  6. I don’t eat meat, but I do eat lots and lots of veggies.
  7. I was born under the astrological sign of Aquarius. So were my mother and grandmother. (Weird coincidence? Kinda.)
  8. My favorite color is orange. But that’s today. It could very well change tomorrow.
  9. If I’m not working on an assignment or hanging out with the hubby I can be found mentoring to teenagers about fashion design through the organization Project Osmosis, or teaching teens about journalism through the True Star Foundation (True Star Magazine). Both of these non-profits are doing great things to help the next generation succeed. (Each one teach one!)
  10. I basically started this blog because I wanted to write about the things I enjoy, which are art, design and the creative process, the good and the bad of the entertainment world, and whatever weird, crazy, interesting, unexplainable, scary and lovely things life has to offer.

There you have it, 10 new things you may not have known before today. Now that we’re cool like that I hope you’ll come back to visit this blog often. If you’re feeling up to it, do me a favor and share the site with a friend. Thanks for reading.

Until next time…

Marti

  1. I love this picture of you, Mar! You look like you are trying to figure out what to write next.

  2. Lol…. I love this!

  3. Well my dear sister-in-law, I didn’t know you designed a t-shirt for Abercrombie so I’ve learned something new!

  4. I love it Marti! Lets talk soon.

    Be Blessed, Leelee

  5. Hi Marti… I’m nominating you for the Liebster Award. It’s been great to “meet” you and look forward to more. You can find out more here…http://wendyellenthomas.com/2012/04/13/blog-love-and-no-blackberry-crisp-7×7-link-liebster-and-kreativ-blogger/

    • WOW! Thank you soooooo very much Wendy. No one has ever nominated me for anything before. What an honor! I will be sure to thank you properly in my next post on Wednesday.

  6. Lovely to meet you Marti. A fab way to introduce yourself through a list of facts about yourself, I may borrow that idea for my home page in a future make-over (imitation is the highest form of flattery!!).

That’s pretty amazing about your Nan, Mum AND You sharing the same birth sign. You must all get on very well. As a teenager both my best friends and I were all Taurus’s and my 2nd serious partner was a Taurean as well.

You do some fantastic work Marti and I’m guessing you love the interviewing aspect!

I love your photo too….You come across as a *very* easy going and laid back person – good traits!!

    Imogen 🙂

  7. LOL! Thank you for the compliment Imogen.

I have first cousins that are Aquarian too, and yes, we all get along very well. Celebrity interviews can be a blast and a challenge, but when they happen I try not to get all star stuck. They are regular people just like you and me. They just happen to have what most consider to be fantastic jobs. Really, really fantastic.

I find it humorous that you say I come across as “easy going and laid back.” I get that a lot. Only the people who really know me best know the truth :-). Thanks for stopping by.
